Global Albinism Alliance, ILDS, and Standing Voice have announced the finalized outcomes of the inaugural World Forum on Skin Cancer Prevention and Management in Persons with Albinism, held October 27–28, 2025 in Cape Town. Delegates formed working groups to advance advocacy, expand access to photoprotection, strengthen clinical capacity, scale services, and prioritize research to prevent needless deaths from skin cancer.
Global Albinism Alliance Response to the UN Expert on Albinism’s Statement on the Skin Cancer Crisis
The Global Albinism Alliance responds to UN Independent Expert Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond’s warning on the skin cancer crisis affecting people with albinism. The statement welcomes WHO’s inclusion of sunscreen on the Essential Medicines Lists and urges governments and partners to ensure equitable access to affordable, high-SPF sunscreen—especially in low-resource settings. It also calls for targeted data collection, research, and community-led initiatives that turn policy into protection.
